These sheep can be seen when driving on the M8 in Scotland, and I would love to go and see them in person. Can you imagine driving down the highway and seeing red and blue sheep grazing in the fields? You’d think you were suffering an hallucination. It seems that Scottish farmer Andrew Jack started painting his sheep in bright red and blue colors to “spice things up” so people could smile on their way to and from work.

The sheep are sprayed with animal-friendly paint, something they don’t mind at all, and they will remain colorful until sheared. Supposedly this all started when the farmer wanted to paint them blue to mark St Andrew’s Day, but when the colorful sheep became such an attraction, he decided to use red, as well. You must admit they are a colorful lot, but I wonder if they look down, see the color and think they're having a bad hair day.
Now on a completely different note—and this has nothing to do with sheep or golf--if you haven’t been watching Downton Abbey, I want to give it a two-thumbs up recommendation. The second season has begun on PBS Masterpiece Theater on Sunday nights at 8:00 p.m. central time. If that conflicts with your church schedule, do what I do: record it or watch it online later in the week. It is a delightful show that you shouldn’t miss. The first season and first two episodes of this season can be downloaded and viewed on your computer or iPad—
Watch Downton Abbey: Elizabeth McGovern on A Favorite Scene with Maggie Smith on PBS. See more from Masterpiece.
May you find joy as you deal with all the strange characters in your life (such as Tammy). Just sayin… Judy

The show looks a bit interesting, though it may take some convincing for Erik to watch it. And LOVE the blue and red sheep! What a way to put a smile on people's faces :-)
Praying things go well with your deadline and that the words are flowing :-)
I think you'd really like Downton Abbey, Catherine, and you could always download and watch them by yourself when Erik isn't around if you don't think he'd enjoy them. Tammy said she's watching them while she exercises. :)
Glad you liked the sheep and thanks for the prayers. I really need them!
Judy! Hey!
I requested the DVD of "Downton Abbey" from the Library...I'm number 42 on the waiting list. I would have been following it on TV but I'm usually sleepy by 7:00PM
(I get up @ 4:45AM)
I KNOW that I will like it, I like most of the series on the BBC/Masterpiece Theater...and add Maggie Smith to that, you've got a winner! She is an excellent character actress. So can't wait to watch it!
Great story about the colored sheep, what will people think of next? lol
Have a great day!
I know I could watch them alone...it's just more fun to do it together since we spend so much of the day apart. Silly, but we love to veg together :-) However, with all these deadlines he's been having and needing to work from home after he gets home, it would give me something to do so he doesn't think I'm bored. :-) Since I'm at work, I doubt I can look it up...but is there a certain website I can download it from?
Good morning, Veronica! I agree with you...LOVE Maggie Smith. Of course, I'm sure it's a sign of the culture, but when I saw her, I'm like "It's Professor McGonagall!" from Harry Potter! XD
Oh, my Veronica. I'm amazed there are so many on the waiting list--then again, I know it has become VERY popular--and rightfully so. I absolutely love Maggie Smith, too. She's just so wonderful--no matter what the role.
Catherine, if you go to www.pbs.org and scroll down, you'll see all the episodes you can watch on your computer or download. :)
Thanks Judy! It looks like only episodes 1-4 are online for Season 1...but it shall get me started! And that gives me time to look it up elsewhere (like Hulu or some place like that!).
Oh my, Judy! I'm still laughing at those sheep. Last Saturday, I borrowed a fleece from Dave's leather shop as a visual aid for the ladies' Bible study on Gideon. They wanted to know why the wool had an orangeish cast, and even after I told them it was due to the tanning process, there was a lot of giggling about where to find an orange sheep. Now I know where to tell them they can look! LOL
And I LOVE Downton Abbey. Haven't started this season yet, but I can't wait to catch up!
Hi Carol,
I was thinking the owner should try a few more colors and he'd have a rainbow out there in the field. :) And glad to hear you like Downton Abbey--I think it's absolutely fabulous.
Catherine, Keep checking back at PBS. They seem to change which ones they offer from time to time so the rest may be available when you get done with the first ones.
Y'all are having entirely too much fun over here while I'm stuck in my cave writing. And strange characters? Strange characters, Judy? You're the one hangnin' with blue and red sheep, woman. Just sayin'! ; )
P.S. IN SERIES LOVE with Downton Abbey. Oh. My. Word. Can't wait to hit the elliptical again today. AFTER I get more of this story on the page.
Oh Judy! Nothing sheepish about this post....in fact, when I first saw the picture, I thought you were trying to pull the wool over our eyes! *wink* (I know---baaaa-d puns*sigh*). But I do LOVE the interesting tidbits you share with us (not to mention reading all the comments too!). ~ And in my best "Kindergarten teacher voice" I'll just say this to you and Tammy: "Now girls, let's play nicely!" *grin* Hugs, Patti Jo :)
Hi Judy! Forth time lucky...we'll see if this goes through.
I enjoyed your fun post and will keep a lookout next time we visit Scotland. We were actually there in 2008 and travelled along the M8.
Our Tour Guide told us about the sheep, but I didn't see any.
As far as Downton Abbey is concerned, you maybe sure we'll be watching. I LOVE that show! Maggie Smith is one of my FAVOURITE actresses!
As a matter of fact we are going to the pics in March to see Maggie and Dame Judy Dench(another favourite actress of mine) in "Marigold Hotel."..Should be a great film too and I was lucky enough to be given a complimentary ticket. But rest assured, we definitely WILL be watching Downton Abbey!! :)
Isn't it great to have something you enjoy while you exercise, Tammy? As for me, I'm happy just sittin' and watchin'.
Patti Jo--I sure did give you lots of fodder for your puns today. Love your sense of humor! And I do my best to get along with Tammy, but she just keeps picking at me. :)
Marigold Hotel? That sounds wonderful, Rosie. I haven't heard about that movie. I'll need to go out and google it. Sorry you had so much trouble getting through to post. I think blogger is kind of like Tammy, cantankerous!
Love the sheep! They do make you smile.
Between your vote and my hubby's, I'm going to have to start watching "Dowtown Abby". I'm sure I'll get as hooked as you. :)
OOOH!!! Thems fightin' words Judy!
Can I blame Tammy for the Blog not working?
Er Sorry Tam!:0)
Watch out Rosie, I have your address, babe!
And Judy, does the word "embed" mean anything to you, my dear? : )
Tammy (whose writing back cover copy for her next book when she really wants to be finishing her next book)
Hi Judy! Loved the pictures of the sheep. Oh my! Red & Blue sheep. Who would have thought!!
As for Downton Abbey, we started watching the show this past weekend after reading so much about it on Facebook. We are LOVING it! Favorite characters--it's too new to remember their names. But lets just say, there are those we love and those we don't like very much. LOL
BTW, we watched the first three episodes on PBS, and then ordered the rest on Netflix. HOWEVER, be warned...the episodes on PBS do not translate the same on Netflix. We ended up watching the same episode twice with mixed scenes. Really strange. But so enjoyable!
OOOH TAM! I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!!:)
OOOH TAM! I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!!:)
From the looks of things, you gals were up both late last night and very early this morning. :)
Whoops, I better watch myself or I may get in deep trouble with Tammy and I do need her help sometimes--there I said it--she helps me and I do appreciate her. Wellll, at least most of the time. LOL.
And Debbie, I didn't know there was a difference in the Netflix version. I haven't watched any of those, but I'm surprised to hear that!
This show is the BEST!!!! I've come to like Mary, I really relate and like Edith and how far she's come...I totally am in love with Matthew and Mary even though they aren't a couple...yet. ;)
I've seen all the episodes including the Christmas special so I am going to leave the comment form now before I give away any spoilers!
But...in season 2 I laughed, I cried often and in my humble opinion, it is fully awesome.
=D
