There are some novelists I know whose internal editor not only changes the way they read books but the way they see movies. Their brains are busy analyzing how the stories are told, and they never go deep into the movie itself. One more reason I'm thankful I'm an intuitive writer. It is so much easier for me to suspend reality for a couple of hours in the theater and enter the story world of the writers and actors and directors. Yes, I still often anticipate what will happen next, but it doesn't spoil it for me. One reason, I guess, that I can watch the same movies over and over and love them just as much the 50th time as the first time. (I've even started a Pinterest Board of movies I can watch again and again.)
Do you love movies, too? What was your favorite movie from 2011?
Bet you can tell from these photos what my favorite 2011 movie was. I would have loved to see it sweep the Oscars, but that was impossible since Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer were up in the same category. I wanted Viola Davis to win for Best Actress, but I'm not surprised Meryl Streep won for The Iron Lady; she's amazing.
Huge congratulations to Octavia Spencer, who won for Best Supporting Actress (Minny in The Help). Well deserved.~robin

Robin, I would have to say that my favorite movie for 2011 was definitely "The Help." Of course, I also think it's the only movie Erik and I went to see...we just rarely watch TV, so we never see previews for movies, so we never know what movies are out. Many thanks to you ladies for recommending it!
ReplyDeleteOh...and I stand corrected. We also saw Harry Potter in the theater last year! XD
Catherine, if I didn't subscribe to People and Entertainment Weekly as a way to keep current with our culture so that I can write books that are relevant (even when I'm writing historicals), I wouldn't know what movies were playing either. And more often than not, I wait until they are out on DVD. But The Help was a Must See in the theater movie for me.
DeleteRobin, I have to say "BOUQUETS" to Meryl Streep for her outstanding performance as Maggie Thatcher(as we Aussies call her) in "The Iron Lady." Her voice imitations are absolutely phenomenal and(no offence meant here) but for an American to imitate the British Accent so brilliantly, is no mean feat in itself and I applaud her completely! She also won an award from the Australian Film Institute in the category as, Best International Actress and leading role portraying Lindy Chamberlain, a film that surely set all of Australia on edge!
ReplyDeleteYou can be proud of Meryl's many accolades, that's for sure!:0)
Robin, I omitted to say the film was "A Cry In The Dark."(1988)
DeleteI love to hear from an Aussie that Meryl nailed the accent. Still, I felt Viola Davis gave the better performance, nuanced and emotional, so I wanted her to win. But I don't begrudge Meryl's win.
DeleteOops! Blogger ate my second post!
ReplyDeleteRobin,I omitted to say the film I was referring to was "A Cry In The Dark"(1988)
Oh Boy! the second post has reappeared and now I can't get rid of this one! Sorry Blogger!:0)
I only watched about 20 minutes of the Oscars---but am now extra-eager to see "The Help"! Blessings on your week, Patti Jo :)
