I’m eating on the couch.
Weight control experts
tell you not to.
It’s pizza.
(Utterly
sinful)
At three in the afternoon.
I skipped
lunch, but Dr. Phil just came on TV in one of those sound bites and asked, “How’s that working for you?”
I’m in pajamas.
Pain control
specialists insist on clients getting dressed each day. It's been an especially brutal week, so I threw that rule out the window, too.

The dogs are begging.
(Hey—I’m not
the only one who breaks rules!)
I sent them outside. They promptly obeyed….
Temporarily. Soon there were three thwaps in close succession. The doggy
door’s sound tattled on their return.
The Dog Whisperer makes that Pssst! Noise to make dogs behave.
I make a
staccato “Aht” sound. It works most of the time, but maybe if I copied Caesar’s
recommendation, I’d get better results.
They obeyed long enough for me to have a few more bites.
Then, thwap, thwap, thwap!

Dottie is
“sitting pretty” a yard away, being “reward” worthy
Rocky is lying
on the floor in his usual spot…licking my foot in the animal kingdom’s version of
bootlicking. I’m not wearing boots. I’m barefoot and ticklish.
Midas is
resting his chin on my knee, his big, brown liquid eyes pleading silently.
So you've probably guessed it:
I broke more rules.
I didn’t Pssst
or Aht!
I gave them
each a piece of pepperoni.
(So
much for not giving dogs people food.)
God sits on His throne.
I hope it's as comfy as my couch
It wouldn’t
be heaven if there weren’t pizza.
I have no
idea what He wears.
But we all long for His attention.
Some
rely on good behavior.
Some
try to curry His favor with good deeds.
Some
unashamedly beg.
And in His mercy, Christ beckons and says, “Come.”
Because we
broke the rules, He came.
He fulfilled
the rules.
Now He rules.
Nothing we do can add or buy our way through heaven's gate.
He's pleased when we behave in a manner that reflects that we are His.
He's able to work through us when we dedicate our hands and hearts to Him.
He's delighted when we look to Him in adoration, hope, and trust.
So here I am, basking in the glory of the renewed awareness
of God’s incredible, eternal love. All because of breakin' a few rules and sharin' a slice of pizza with my furry friends.
We all love you.
Cathy, Dottie, Rocky, and Midas, all with pizza breath.

I love this post. Fabulous job.
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to remember how much God loves us, and isn't He the most awesome to meet us over Pizza?
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad God loves us and tells us to "Come". What a great post!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Cath! Sorry your pain has been so bad--praying for a better upcoming week, sweet friend. (and I'm secretly thankful you gave in and fed your doggies some pepperoni*wink*). Hugs from Florida (yes, here on a weekend trip!), Patti Jo
ReplyDeleteMary Loiuse, I LOVE how you phrased that. "He meets with us over pizza."
ReplyDeleteHe invited us first, but we can certainly always return the invitation!
Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest.
Cath
Patti Jo! Have a wonderful time in Florida!
ReplyDeleteI've thought so much of our Rosie this week because of her headaches. I struggle with daily migraine syndrome, and after three days of--literally- blinding agony and vomiting, I got in to see the pain specialist. They're now going up thru my nose, into my brain to treat the nerves. Praise God! I've had three days that have been "normal!"
Celebrating with Jesus, Pizza and puppies seemed right.
In all honesty, though, I'd be likely to console myself with them if the headache continued....
*SIGH* A waist is a terrible thing to watch. Especially when it grows!
Cath
Great post Cathy, Love it! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd praying for you my friend that the pain goes away.
Sending love and lots of {hugs}
That was a great post, Cathy. Loved it. I could identify so well with you. (smile) Sadly in all things but the dogs. Mine died 3 months ago. I miss him. Hope that the day outside your place is as beautiful as outside mine.. peekaboo day but vibrant with spring. Hugs and God keep you under His wing.

How you must miss your dog! Not quite two years ago, we had to put down both of our dogs. I was bereft. Their loyalty, companionship, soft ears and wagging tails fill our hearts and our days. New pets don't replace the lost ones; but they create new spaces in our hearts.
Today is bright and breezy. I hope to double-hitch Rocky and Dottie and take them for an evening stroll. Gotta walk off that pizza, ya know!
Cathy
Oh Ms Hake!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post! I haven't been on in a while but this a great fun post to return too.
I wonder if there is pizza in heaven? If there is, it sure won't be sinful to take a bite out of a piece of that glorious pie.
MmmmmmmMmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!
Praise God he still loved us though we broke the more important rules!!!!!!!!!!!!
<3 Essie
Essie,
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering.... Do you think perhaps Manna for the Israelites was actually pizza?
God had manna put in the Ark of the Covenant.... so if it *was* pizza, then that means it will be in heaven!
A) "logic" can explain lots
B) Hope springs eternal
C) Yes, I write fiction.
Cath
Hmmmmmm.....
ReplyDeletePerhaps, perhaps it was pizza or a form of it that will be even better up in Heaven! :)
I'm sure in the VeggieTales movies they used pizza; they usually do.
Haha! :)
This explains why you're so good at fun fiction! :)
<3 Essie :)
