But let's talk favorite romantic couples.
From my own books, at the top of my list would have to be Cleo and Sherwood from Fit To Be Tied. Such a mismatched pair. They delighted me. I had such fun watching their love grow.Angel and Michael from Francine Rivers' classic, Redeeming Love, stand out in my mind. Definitely not lighthearted like Cleo and Sherwood, but oh-so-memorable. I learned so much just "watching" Michael Hosea talk to God, and I yearned for Angel to discover true love, both with Michael and with the Lord.
How about from the movies? I find those much easier than books actually. Perhaps that's because I watch movies over and over but there are only a few books that I've read multiple times (Redeeming Love; Gone With the Wind; etc.).
I'll start.
Who doesn't love Bob and Grace in Return to Me? Okay, if you don't, don't tell me. I simply won't understand. I get so caught up in their romance. I cry and I smile and I sing through this movie, and the ending in Italy. Ah ...
It goes without saying that Scarlet and Rhett from Gone With the Wind would be on my list (both book and movie). Not a happy ending as written by Ms. Mitchell, but that's the nice thing about an imagination like mine. No matter what anyone else thinks, I know they got back together and love triumphed in the end.
Okay, your turn. Name some of your favorite couples from books and/or movies. Feel free to expand on why.

I agree with Scarlett and Rhett. That is my all time favorite book and movie.
ReplyDeleteAnother movie couple I love watching is The Magic of Ordinary Days. Ray tries so hard to take care of Livvie, and watching the struggle Livvie fights, but the happy ending....One of my favorite Hallmark movies.
I have not read Redeeming Love yet, but I hear so much about it, I have to get it one of these days.
Fun post, Robin! ~ Of course my very first thought was Scarlet and Rhett (especially being a southern girl myself, LOL). But I'd have to also say Maria and Capt. VonTrapp from THE SOUND OF MUSIC---absolutely LOVE that movie!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Patti Jo (who is keeping my comment brief because Moses is trying his best to "help" me type this morning!!)
My favorite couple right now is "Leap Year's" Anna and Declan and their hilarious journey across Ireland in that old Renault 4. My dad had one of those when I was growing up.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite couple in books; Elizabeth and Admiral Lord Buchanan, from Liz Curtis Higgs' Book "Mine is the Night".
Unfortunately though, I hate to contradict: Scarlet is in her garden making a pact that she'll lie and steal or do whatever to preserve herself. I've always thought Rhett deserved better, and personally I'm glad he saw the light and left her behind. No matter how good my imagination, I cannot see those two together later... Sorry, Robin.
I did read 'Fit to be Tied' and enjoyed it. (That, to redeem myself...lol).
In a book, Anna and Karl from a LaVyrle Spencer novel whose name escapes me right now. (The Endearment???) As for a movie, John Wayne and Katherine Hepburn in "Rooster Cogburn and the Lady." Such chemistry! Loved it!
ReplyDeleteOh! how could I have forgotten! Anne and Captain Wentworth of Jane Austen's Persuasion. I love that story also.
ReplyDeleteI love all of your responses. That's the problem with naming favorites, because as soon as I do, someone names another and I'm going, "Oh, yes. Them too."
ReplyDeleteRobin
I LOVE the couple in "The Magic of Ordinary Days" as well. What a lovely story of romance and redemption. Also the couple Hortense and Gilbert, Jamaican immigrants in England during the 1940's. There's was a marriage of convenience, but Gilbert won over the prim and proper Hortense...so romantic. Oh! the book is "Small Island" by Andrea Levy and the movie was on Masterpiece theater. Excellent acting! But my most fun romantic couple is the couple from the movie "The Proposal" Love it!
ReplyDelete*Excuse my incorrect use of words (there's). Don't know what I was thinking! LOL It's bedtime after a long busy day!
ReplyDeleteMy mind's awhirl with possibilities. Catherine Marshall's Christy--(I'm not naming the H/H because it would be a spoiler.) Becaue both have so much growing to do.
ReplyDeleteBut the greatest real romance? Noah and his wife. That woman had to REALLY adore him. She put up with his crazy story about something called "rain," the years and years of his building project, the biggest, wildest collections of "pets" ever assembled, and she actually walked aboard the ark of her own free will! Their whole world crumbled away, her husband got roaring drunk, and she still helped repopulate the earth!
*THAT* is the greatest love story never told.
Cathy
Oh, Christy. I Love that story. That is a book I have read many times. I let my sister in law(who loves the story also) borrow it and within a few days I was missing it on my shelf.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm sixteen which might semi explain my answer, but my favorite has probably got to be at the moment: Flynn Rider and Rapunzel!
ReplyDeleteI love Tangled! <3
I really liked Cathy's books Letter Perfect and Fancy Pants, so they are my favorite book couples!!
<3 Essie :)
Book: Can't tell because it would be a spoiler, but I liked the couple ending up together in A Heart Revealed by Julie Lessman
ReplyDeleteMovie would be Serendipity: John Cusack as Jonathan Trager and
Kate Beckinsale as Sara Thomas
Ooh, several more great suggestions. Thanks everyone.
ReplyDeleteLove the couple in The Proposal, Veronica.
And <3 Essie, I love the movie Tangled and am ... a little older than 16. Own it. Watch it.
My Favorite love stories and couples are :
ReplyDeleteAnne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables, Marty and Clark Love Comes Softly the book series, Laura and Almanzo Wilder Little House on the Prairie both the books and the show, Grandma and Grandpa Walton and John and Olivia Walton from The Walton's.
