Old Glory & Southern Writers

Have you been to the Smithsonian in Washington and seen the original Old Glory that's preserved there? It's a moving experience, for sure. I love History.com and, in honor of tomorrow, here's a great video about Old Glory and the history behind our nation's flag…

Wherever you're going to be tomorrow––with family and friends enjoying a picnic in a park, or perhaps celebrating the holiday in a quieter setting at home––and you see the flags waving proudly in your neighborhood and town, I hope you'll take a moment to reflect on the cost of Old Glory. I'll be doing the same.

Now, to switch gears…

The latest issue of Southern Writers Magazine released on Monday, and whether you're a writer or a reader, I encourage you to check it out. And please don't judge the magazine by it's cover (grin)! Southern Writers has some great articles on upcoming books, tips on writing, and in this issue I share at length about the brainstorming group that Robin and I are both part of that meets in July every year. And that's coming up soon, actually! Can hardly wait!

Southern Writers Magazine is usually for subscribers only but since July represents their anniversary, this month's issue is free! Hope you enjoy it!

Will you be displaying Old Glory at your home or apartment tomorrow? We will be. I hope you have a wonderful holiday!

Blessings on your Tuesday, friends,
Tammy

  1. Tammy,I enjoyed watching the video on your American Flag and the history behind it. Every nation is different and I find that incredibly interesting.
I also would like to wish everyone in the States a happy AID...celebrate in style Ladies and (I hasten to say) Gentlemen.:)

On a more serious note, may I ask that you all spare a little time to think of our dear Judy. I know she would appreciate your Prayers.

Also, would you be able to send a few our way for my son and his family. They lost a very close friend(part of their family) yesterday in ICU and are devastated. I know they would appreciate your Prayers too.

  3. Thanks for the excellent reminder about our flag, Tammy--SO important for us to remember. LOVED visiting the Smith. back in the late 90s and seeing Old Glory--WOW! We'll be proudly flying our flag as we celebrate the day with a houseful of family (I love having everyone here and always remind my kitties that all that talking noise is only temporary, LOL). ~ Waving to precious Rosie, and praying for your son's loss....so sad. Also continued prayers for our precious Judy--wish we could all give her gentle hugs in person. ~ Love, Patti Jo
p.s. LOVE Southern Writer magazine (I'm a subscriber) and especially like that newest cover! Hmmm...that lovely author in the middle looks soooo familiar...*wink* ~ PJ

  4. Thank you for sharing the magazine with us, Tammy. Great article! It's great to see how you ladies encourage each other :-)

I was at the Smith probably 10 years ago. If I remember correctly, they were restoring Old Glory. On July 4, 2007, I was able to visit Fort McHenry. Let me tell you, visiting the place the "Star Spangled Banner" was written on July 4th was an absolute treat! They have all different sized American flags they fly based on the weather. Well, wouldn't you know that the day I visited, it was the perfect day and they flew the largest of the flags? (pic...if it works!: http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/149_523386737005_411_n.jpg )There are times, to this day, I can't sing the song without becoming choked up because I place myself back at that fort, looking over the water...

Rosie, praying for your son and his family through this time, as well as remembering to pray for Judy. Love all you ladies!

  6. Hey gals! Sorry to be late to the party. I've been in my cave writing all day. Loved reading through your comments. Y'all make me smile!

I spoke with our sweet Judy this morning, and yes, let's continue to keep her in our prayers. No doubt, this has been a hard day. Judy, we love you!

And this is two years for Robin and her losing her precious mom, too. So let's remember her as well. Robin, hugs coming your way, friend.

And Rosie, I'm keeping your son and his family in my prayers too. May God's angels surround you all.

Patti Jo, I know you'll be the hostess with the mostess tomorrow! Cool on that trip, Catherine. I love trips like that. Meghan, Happy Bday to your fabulous father tomorrow!!

And now...off to walk then watch an episode of Downton Abbey with Joe!
