We're Smokin'

Montana has several fires, but Idaho seems to have even more. Now Washington state has added to the pot and viola! We're Smokin'! The doctor asked me the other day if I smoke and I told her, only during summer forest fire season. She thought that was funny, but alas, it's true. We started early with fires this year and the entire summer has been miserable. On the other hand, I still have a beautiful state to live in and many things for which I'm thankful.

The smoke in Montana has given us some beautiful sunsets, even though it's wreaking havoc with my asthma.

This fawn doesn't seem to mind, but you can see how hazy things are in the background.

Even smokey, it's a great place to live.  Here's Mack enjoying a game of fetch.  We had him shaved for the summer, so he doesn't look quite as grand the collie as he usually does, but he just turned one year old.

Calvin on the other hand has a few years on Mack.  Calvin is the wise one who Jim put in charge of Feline Security. I'm very thankful for him and the little gifts he brings on occasion - voles, gophers, mice and sadly the occasion baby rabbit.

This is Molly, my mother's beagle.  Molly has very little patience for Mack, but she can be so very sweet.

And Sarfari has very little patience for anyone.  She's queen of the keep and doesn't let anyone forget about it.  The smoke doesn't seem to bother her at all. And Jim says it's because she's actually demon possessed and from hell. Sometimes as crazy as she gets...I actually think he may be right.

So despite the smoke and my inability to go for long walks outside, I occasionally get to go for a short drive.

So we'll deal with our hazy, smoky skies and take refuge in the sealed and air conditioned house.  I'll wear my mask when I get house crazy and go for a short drives (I had to say that or Cathy would get after me), and I'll be praying for early snows or complete fire suppression.

 God Bless!
Tracie

  3. Oh Tracie....I've been praying for all of you out West who've been affected by the terrible fires...Will continue praying. Everytime you do a post on Montana it makes me really want to visit there! (in fact a while back I even wrote for some free information, so now I've got some lovely books and brochures to peruse *smile*). Thank you for sharing photos of your precious furry children. Although each pet is adorable, I must say that Calvin and Sarfari would be my 2 favorites (hope I don't sound "catty" LOL). Hugs from Georgia, Patti Jo

  4. We definitely appreciate the prayers, and Patti Jo you can sound as "catty" as you want. Around here we call it having a "good catitude."

  5. You're so right, Tracie. We are having a bad time with the fires. The Boise Valley's air quality is the worst it has been in years and years. Today is cooler and breezy so a lot of the smoke has blown out of the valley. I'm thankful for that. I don't have asthma to worry about, but I still feel it in my lungs.

Love the dogs and cats photos. Maybe Sarfari is Pinky's sister. We call her the DC (demon cat). Is it a black cat condition?

Patti Jo, if you visit Montana, you must slip over the border and visit Idaho too.

  6. Tracie, you get to enjoy Montana's gorgeous vistas all year long. For this bit of time, stay inside and use your air purifier. Keep the animals inside, too. That chunky air is hard on them, too.
Yes, I know. Safari is beyond help. That cat should have a pointed tail and cloven hooves. The claws stand in as good substitutes for a pitchfork.
You and Jim and Robin could all come to So Cal. I'd take you for a sunset walk on the beach. It would be gorgeous, and the oh-so-bracing, salt air would help clear your lungs.
PLEASE TAKE CARE> WE ALL LOVE YOU!

  7. As bad as the smoke was today, I honestly thought about leaving the area, Cathy so don't be surprised if I show up for that walk on the beach. Robin - I think it may be a black cat thing. I'd forgotten you were in Idaho - so sorry that you guys are going through so much. Just know that your sister Montana is enduring it with you.

  8. Tracie, just want you to know we are thinking and praying for you all. We have seen reports on the fires and the extreme heat.
I cannot tell you how bizarre that sounds to us,as we had snow in the Adelaide Hills two days ago. It was only 2deg celsius where I live and that's freezing for us!
I endorse Cathy's comment re staying inside with your puffer....nothing worse than smoke inhalation.
Loved your photos and your pets are beautiful.
    Take care.
