Diving into Revisions

I have a writer friend who absolutely loves revisions. I mean, she gets giddy with excitement when she knows her revision letter will soon arrive. Maybe there are others who are that wild about the process, but I don't know who they are. Most of my writer friends are glad that they get another chance, with the help of their editors, to improve on their books, and they take  pleasure in the work ... or at least in the finished work.

I confess, depending upon what the editor is suggesting/requesting, that my feelings about revisions wax and wane. A good portion of the revision time, I feel like my head will explode. Every change in a manuscript has to be followed through to the end, and I live in a subconscious but constant state of panic, afraid that I will miss something crucial.

Revisions for Beloved arrived last week, so now you know my state of mind as I write this blog post. Picture me with glazed eyes, babbling softly to myself. Yeah, that's me.

I am anxiously awaiting the cover of this book. It should arrive any day. In the meantime, the photo above left is, at last report, the model they are using for Diana, the heroine of Beloved.

Now I'd best get back to work.

PS I can't provide a link yet, but an out of print novel is about to become available on ebooks soon. Speak to Me of Love is a novel where I got to put my love of Shakespeare's works to good use. Faith, the heroine, is a Shakespearean actress, and her thoughts and speech are sprinkled with lines from the Bard's plays and sonnets. The new ebook cover is below at right. The ebook should be ready for pre-orders this week and should release by October 15. Following is the book blurb:
He was a prisoner of his own anger and bitterness. She held the key that could set him free.

When Faith Butler finds herself and her two children stranded in Dead Horse, Wyoming, she has no choice but to take employment with mysterious recluse Drake Rutledge. As Faith shines the light of hope and happiness in the dark halls of Drake's dismal mansion, Drake is forced out of the shadows that have hidden him for so long. Only this feisty Shakespearean actress and her irresistible children could cause such a change in Drake. Then the shadows of Faith's past descend on them all, and they must turn to their Savior for light that can cut through even the deepest darkness.

  1. Best of luck, & prayers, & chocolate, & caffeine...and GRACE over these revisions for you! While my novel isn't published [yet} I've had one or two people work on editing it & I dread what they send back to me. ;) Even though I *know* it's for the greatest good...

  5. Thanks, all.

Meghan, Speak to Me of Love was released about 9 years ago, and so your library might have a copy.

Rosie, there is no audio version planned at this time. I wish. I love having my books on audio.

Tammy, I agree about the cover.

Patti Jo, it describes me at Walmart too. Or any crowded store.

The pre-order is up for the Kindle ($3.99) at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B009KO9YXG/novelistrobinlee
